The Original Dish Drying Mat

Yeah, this is so totally how my dishes look when I'm done washing them, as opposed to being thrown everywhere.
Because of this laziness, I couldn't figure out how having this thing would benefit me.
Hey, look! A random green apple rolled over onto the mat. Magic!
I was surprised at the size of the thing. It's 16"x18" and pretty thick. That doesn't sound all that big until you're holding it in your hands, with it's squishy terry cloth mass all up in your face. I stared at it, tried to imagine where on my counters I'd set the thing, and then threw it into a drawer and forgot about it.
Well, I forgot about it until one day I finally got around to cleaning my make-up brushes and needed something to lay them out on. Naturally, every towel I had was in the washer, and I was out of paper towels. After some grumbling and griping about my expert timing and how I didn't want to go to the store, I remembered that I had the mat. And so, the day was saved thanks to the Original Dish Drying Mat.
Oh ok, maybe not saved. It's not like my bathroom counters haven't had wet things thrown across them in a cleaning related temper tantrum before. However, it did help. I did notice a difference in the drying time of my brushes, and I didn't have any puddles to clean up afterwards. Yay!
However, my favorite use for this mat reared its head later that night when I walked into the bathroom and discovered that every one of my daughter's ponies had taken a bath with her. There were drowned ponies everywhere and Mommy needed a bubble bath right then. I don't know what they make My Little Ponies out of, but they hold water like there's no tomorrow. In fact, I secretly think that all children's toys are designed to hold as much water as possible. Maybe this is something that I should look into for hidden survival rations.

My Little... Camel?
Again, the mat saved the day. Out it came, and on the ponies went. I got my relaxing book-and-bubbly-bath session, and my floor didn't get totally soaked. Mog still got in trouble for leaving her soaking wet toys everywhere, but hey, the mat can't be expected to save every day.
After that, the mat needed a bath of its own, so I followed the recommended instructions - oh ok, I really chunked it into the washer and hoped for the best. I half way expected it to unravel, get lumpy, or something, but it came out looking good as new. I add this in because I've had several drying mats before that have done just that after one wash.
On a whim, I decided to pack the mat to take with us on a camping trip. I was going to use it to lay out our camping dishes after I washed them. Unfortunately, we never got to that point, because it started pouring almost immediately after we had set up camp. Fortunately, the mat is really soft and is great for wiping things down, too.
So can I recommend The Original Dish Drying Mat for drying dishes? Err... well technically, but I've never used it for that. I've set frozen packages on it, to let the packages defrost a bit with out leaking all over everywhere. I've wiped up large amounts of water with it. I've dried makeup brushes on it. I've dried children's toys on it. I've set colanders of noodles on it to let the excess water drip off. I've put wet fruit and veggies on it to dry. I've done all sorts of things with it, but I still haven't washed any dishes.
